The 80th session of the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) will take place this July and is anticipated to move ahead with a program of regulatory developments that will shape the maritime sector for years to come. The Committee is expected to discuss the current trajectory of the IMO’s decarbonization goals and reduction targets for 2050, establish guidelines for the assessment of lifecycle greenhouse gas intensity of marine fuels (LCA Guidelines), consider new measures to improve BWM Convention compliance and discuss the latest proposals for reduction of marine plastic litter from ships.
